The Saltwater Story
Benjamin Allmon’s debut as a film producer has gone on to win four awards at international film festivals, is screened in 53 countries, and can be found on Docplay, qantas airlines, The Archaeology Channel (USA), abc international, the black screen program, The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia, and screens on SBS On Demand.
filmed by award-winning filmmaker Jeff Licence, it follows Allmon’s relationship with bundjalung canoe maker Kyle Slabb and veteran paddler Mark Matthews, who, together with a group of young men (both Indigenous and non-Indigenous) build traditional canoes and embark on a 70km, 3-day sea voyage re-tracing an ancient trade route from the heart of the Queensland Gold Coast to North Stradbroke Island, a journey not made for over 100 years.
